Hand in hand
Kestrel Handrail systems recently completed a collaboration project for a property renovation which achieved fantastic results.
Kestrel Handrail Systems allows you to incorporate safe railing solutions into your home or business. Owners Katie and Bruce Grant work together to provide an all-round service. Bruce specialises in the design and installation of balconies and balustrading and Katie focuses on the administration and customer service element of the business. Together, the couple provide a seamless service installing bespoke handrail systems throughout Cornwall.
One of their most recent projects was to complete the handrail installation of a feature staircase and outdoor space for a property renovation. This involved collaborating with the construction business involved, Ridgwells Ltd (ridgwells.co.uk), in order to execute the installation to the client’s requirements and to complete the project on time. “We had already worked with Ridgwells on another project so we were keen to work with them again,” Bruce says,
“especially considering their craftsmanship, attention to detail, design and accuracy. Working alongside a company with the same end goal is always a pleasure.”
As previously mentioned, Kestrel were involved with two separate areas of the project. A staircase had already been installed and required compliant ‘guarding’ with the actual guarding element offering low visual impact, meaning that the staircase could be the focal point. “Using laminate glass, we offered appropriate safety, but fixing to the treads allowed the staircase to remain the star,” says Bruce.
Outside, any area which offered a risk of falling needed to be safely guarded. Using stainless steel posts, handrails and a toughened glass balustrade meets that criteria, not to mention that the use of glass still gives the enjoyment of far-reaching views, doesn’t darken any areas, and provides a flawless finish. “We aim for functional with clean lines to match the rest of the build,” Bruce says. “We want to enhance, not detract from any location.”
