Happy Glamping

Already boasting stylish and comfortable accommodation on the south coast, Bodrugan Barton now offers glamping too!

Owner Sally explains: “With increasing standards and so much alternative glamping accommodation provided throughout the British Isles, we felt we needed to bring up the site to the cottage standards and installed the Wigwams®, which are lovely warm camping cabins that sit beautifully in the countryside.”

“…our guests love the idea of a farm and like to know more about the way we operate.”

Bodrugan’s history dates back to Domesday, with Bodrugan’s Leap – an outstanding section of the coast path – commemorating Sir Henry de Bodrugan leaping off the cliff with his horse to escape Earl Edgcumbe, after he and his men discovered he’d betrayed the Loyalists during the Civil War.

This historic site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, situated between Gorran Haven and Mevagissey, with the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Caerhayes and the Roseland peninsula all within a few minutes’ drive. There are also some wonderful views for glampers and Sally tells us: “Everyone who stays on our site can’t wait to drink their early morning tea looking over the sea, watching the fishing boats come and go.”

Sally and her husband Tim also rear sheep, supplying lamb to Waitrose, and they even have a few Dexter cattle. Their son Robin is beginning to take on more farming responsibilities. Tom and Daisy, Robin’s siblings both live and work outside of Cornwall, but they love returning as often as they can and bringing their friends down to show the place off!

“The best things about this business are talking to people and communicating to them about food provenance, farming and how the countryside works. There’s so much interest – our guests love the idea of a farm and like to know more about the way we operate. A big bonus of having people on your land is that you get to learn what happens beyond the Tamar, and it’s vital to keep up with changing viewpoints and to understand what people want from a holiday.

“At Bodrugan, they get great views, walking, beaches, comfortable, en-suite glamping cabins with firepits, outdoor furniture and a car-free site small enough for children to be left to explore. If it rains, they can use our heated indoor pool and sauna, and when tired children go to sleep, parents can enjoy a drink on the deck as they watch the ocean.”
