Life by the sea
The Courtyard at Duporth, on Cornwall’s south coast, is a unique collection of 38, two and three bedroom homes, and is part of Acorn Blue’s Lifetime Living Collection, designed and built exclusively for the over 55s.
Situated above a secluded beach overlooking St Austell Bay and near the picturesque village of Charlestown, The Courtyard at Duporth is a unique collection of 38, two and three-bedroom homes by Acorn Property Group’s Devon and Cornwall region, Acorn Blue. Centred around a landscaped courtyard and a Grade II listed clock tower, The Courtyard is part of Acorn Blue’s Lifetime Living Collection, designed and built exclusively for those over 55.
Formerly the Rashleigh Estate and Manor, you’ll find Duporth on the Cornish coast, south of St Austell. In the 1930s Duporth was opened to the public as a popular seaside holiday resort and apart from a few years in the Second World War – when it was requisitioned by the War Office – it continued to entertain and charm visitors, with its peaceful secluded coastal surroundings, until the end of the century.
Acorn Blue’s design team’s remit was to create a community of buildings and courtyards that were rooted in heritage, nature and the beauty of their surroundings. Architects Stride Treglown designed a range of buildings and spaces all telling their own story, with a variety of character to suit differing needs and tastes. The common feature is a consistent attention to detail and quality, always making the most of light, space, outlook and nature. At the heart of the development is the clock tower, enhanced by its courtyard garden setting with native flower species and tranquil places to sit and soak up the Cornish sun. Around this are the old Manor Farm buildings which have been updated to provide comfortable homes whilst retaining the character and layers of history in the stonework and exposed trusses.
Stepping down through the development you’ll find a collection of new houses and apartments with generous south and east facing balconies overlooking the bay. Nature threads its way throughout the site, from the bee and bat-friendly planting of the central courtyard to the grass roofs of the Bay View houses that nestle below, providing a transition to the site’s private woodland.
All of the bungalows, apartments and houses have been designed to balance comfort, privacy, light and flow of space, whilst embracing the glorious ocean vista.
The Courtyard at Duporth can be found at Manor Farm Road, Duporth, Cornwall PL26 6BD.
