Life of the veg

We celebrate with Riverford Cornwall as the team enjoy a double birthday.

Here at Cornwall Living we have been following the Riverford Home Delivery Cornwall success story since the beginning. Self-confessed veg nerds, and foodies with a passion for Cornwall, Steve and Lynn Allen moved from the Midlands to take over the organic food business in the summer of 2012. Five years on, and now based in Bodmin, they’re still thriving on the joys of running their own successful business, delivering organic food to over 1000 homes per week.

“Good food, good farming and good business.”

Not only are the couple enjoying five years of delivering the green stuff to homes throughout Cornwall, but 2017 also marks 30 years of ‘Good Food, Good Farming, and Good Business’ by Riverford Organic Farmers, the nationwide organic veg delivery service that Steve and Lynn are part of.

The Riverford box scheme began when Guy Watson started growing and delivering vegetables to friends in Devon. 30 years on and Riverford Organic Farmers has evolved into a network of farmers and veg teams offering a nationwide delivery service to over 47,000 homes a week. With an ongoing mission to lead the way in vegetables and to get as many people as possible to ‘Live Life on the Veg’, Riverford shows no sign of slowing down.

Steve and Lynn are doing the same and are now spreading their passion for organic food and healthy eating through the introduction of cookery classes and The Veg Fund. Lynn explains: “We love being part of the community and meeting our customers, so we’re now running Master Veg cookery classes to teach people how to make the most of seasonal vegetables and explore the inspiring things you can do with them.”

The classes are being held on various dates at various locations throughout autumn. “The Veg Fund is now available to help raise money for local schools, charities and clubs. For every new customer that orders from Riverford, their linked school, club or charity receives £15 once they’ve had their third delivery – a great way to encourage healthy eating whilst raising money for a good cause,” enthuses Lynn. Steve and Lynn can also be found at many local shows and events showcasing the best seasonal organic produce.
