Cornwall Living

Making the transition

We all become comfortable in the familiar. But invariably, it’s not always the best place to be.

In a flagship Cornish example, GreenGenUK helped a homeowner in Flushing make the leap from traditional oil heating to a fully renewable, future-proof energy system. The old oil boiler was replaced with a 6 kW Mitsubishi Ecodan R290 air-source heat pump, supported by a 250-litre unvented cylinder and newly-sized radiators to suit the property’s specific heat-loss profile. As a result, 100% of the home’s space heating and hot water demand is now met through renewable energy, with the projected annual cost of running the system estimated at just £759.

To maximise efficiency and resilience, GreenGenUK also fitted a 3.72 kWp solar photovoltaic array (8 high-performance Aiko Neostar panels) combined with a 9.5 kWh battery and hybrid inverter. This setup is expected to generate roughly 3,561 kWh of clean electricity per year, deliver 60% energy independence, and save more than £32,000 over its lifetime, paying back in about nine years. On top of that, the system reduces CO2 emissions by over 900kg annually, which GreenGenUK equates to planting 174 trees over its lifespan.

The homeowner was effusive in their praise: the installation team was described as “very professional and creative in thinking around various issues” and leaving “all the pipework and trunking … absolutely immaculate.” It’s a very tangible demonstration of how Cornwall residents can cut costs, reduce their carbon footprint and futureproof their homes, all with GreenGenUK’s trusted, local expertise.

Backed by more than a decade of experience, GreenGenUK has grown into one of the region’s most trusted renewable energy specialists, with local experts serving communities across Cornwall and the South West. From initial survey to system design, installation and ongoing aftercare, every project is delivered by engineers who understand the unique demands of Cornish homes, from coastal cottages to rural farmhouses. Their team’s local knowledge, combined with industry-leading training and accreditations, means homeowners benefit from tailored, high-performing renewable systems backed by fast, reliable support whenever they need it.
