Cornwall LivingIssue #64
Minerals & memories this Autumn
A part of Cornwall has changed. Where once we toiled underground, now we work in the sun making memories of time spent together.
Set in 18 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, Cornwall Gold has been producing jewellery for almost 30 years with one simple aim; to make memories that reflect Cornwall’s proud mining heritage, outstanding natural beauty and unique way of life. Indulge in some much needed retail therapy in the amazing showroom before visiting the Cornish Pantry Restaurant. The breakfast menu features all your favourites, including its award-winning Cornish breakfast served on a tinner’s shovel. All ingredients are sourced from within a 20-mile radius, so this truly is an authentic local affair.
“… each bespoke piece contains Tolgus Tin extracted and processed on site, combined with 9ct gold.”
Cornwall Gold is home to the last remaining tin mill in Europe; Tolgus Tin Mill is steeped in history and provides the tin which features in Cornwall Gold’s Tolgus collection; a bespoke range of jewellery forged from tin combined with silver and gold.
If you’ve ever wondered what it was like to work in Cornish mining at the height of the industry, we’d recommend a guided tour through Tolgus Tin Mill. See the working set of Cornish stamps, thought to be the last in existence, at over 150 years old. The tour tells the story of many of the individuals who worked at Tolgus, a stark reminder of how dangerous the work could be. It’s noisy and wet. Children were expected to follow in the footsteps of their fathers and grandfathers and would be placed on duty in the slime pits or under the shaking tables – a form of labour that would be unthinkable today.
Proceeds from the jewellery allows the restoration of the historic Tolgus Tin Mill to continue, ensuring this unique piece of Cornwall’s mining heritage is preserved for future generations. With preserving memories in mind, Cornwall Gold presents its new Tolgus Bridal collection, a legacy that will not only help safeguard the future of the mill but also signify the start of your lives together. Lovingly handcrafted to your exact specifications, each bespoke piece contains Tolgus Tin extracted and processed on site, combined with 9ct gold. Indeed, for those who hold Cornwall close to their hearts, Cornwall Gold offers the perfect collection of jewellery with which to express your love. The friendly and experienced team will guide you through the process of selecting the perfect ring, from initial consultation through to design, sizing and manufacture.
Perhaps you have a family heirloom that you would like to incorporate into your special day? The onsite goldsmiths not only offer a cleaning and repair service but can also transform your existing jewellery. This means you can take the piece that holds special sentimental value and commission a redesign into something that will make your day that extra bit extraordinary.
A visit to Cornwall Gold is a uniquely Cornish experience and you’ll leave feeling delightfully satisfied, not least because of the wonderfully attentive service from the team.
