For you and your home

At the top of the High Street, Falmouth, you’ll find The Grey Lurcher, a new addition to the eclectic mix of shops that make up one of the most vibrant streets in Falmouth. The shop stocks a selection of beautiful handmade items, gifts, home and kitchenware. As well as known brands in the gift sector The Grey Lurcher stocks work from Cornish artists and makers. Indeed, showcasing their work adds another dimension to the gifts on offer.

You will find products from Parlane International, and the French brand Durance, whose organic candles and cosmetics are an affordable luxury. Bluebeards Revenge supply men’s toiletries for the beards in your life, and over the coming months a little touch of France will be arriving with glassware and interior from Grand Illusions.

Enjoy an experience with a difference

With a fleet over 30 Segways operating in two locations in Cornwall, Cornwall Segway is one of the best experiences around of its kind. The main daily sessions take place on the iconic Goonhilly Satellite Station on the Lizard, along with excursions around the stunning Clowance Estate near Camborne one day a week.

Even if it’s your first time, worry not – the Segway is really easy to ride thanks to a very clever gyroscopic self-balancing computer that eliminates the need to balance. Oh and it’s great fun, too!

After some simple instruction in the designated training area, you can take your Segway for a spin around one of the site’s unique routes of private roads, obstacle courses, tracks and paths.

There’s also free parking, a picnic area, shop and facilities on site, and after your trip, you’ll be well placed to explore the beautiful Lizard peninsula.

Are you adder aware?

Yearning for the sun to warm them up after a long winter, adders start emerging from hibernation as early as March. Regent Court Veterinary Practice in Penzance sees many dogs every year that have been bitten by adders as they may stand on them or just disturb them whilst they are out basking in the sun. Being venomous, adder bites need to be seen as quickly as possible. A yelp or rapid swelling can mean a bite so you should phone a vet immediately to let them know you are on your way. Keep calm, if possible carry your pet and keep them as cool as possible. Vets will administer fluids, anti-venom and pain relief until your pet is comfortable and recovering. Moorland, coast paths and sand dunes are the most common places for adders; keep dogs on leads or walk early or late, being vigilant if allowing them off to run.

For advice in an emergency or to register for an adder pack, call 01736 368768

Exciting plans for Greens of Padstow

Greens of Padstow, with its scintillating views of the Camel estuary and sumptuous lunch and dinner menus, has fast become a hub of foodie activity in the fishing port of Padstow, but the team is only just getting started.

The site used to be home to a mini golf course, once a popular attraction to locals and visitors alike, and it’s bringing this to life that the team, headed up by Sharon Whittock, are calling ‘phase two’. The project will see the course completely refurbished, including new holes, four different landscaping themes representing Cornwall’s eclectic landscape, and a rolling scheme which will see the commissioned features bringing the different holes to life, some lasting a season, others a lifetime. The course will be playable by Easter, so if you’ve got space in your calendar, be sure to pencil in a visit!

Don’t compromise on style or vision this spring

Alexander Miller Opticians was set up to market well-designed spectacle frames and to use high quality prescription lenses, such as Nikon. Half-hour eye examination appointments ensure that clinical needs are met in a high-tech consulting room, with a fantastic view over Falmouth harbour as a bonus! Mark and Andrew also want their clients to enjoy spectacles, so they felt that time should also be given to the discussion of frame characteristics and the attributes of lenses. Engaging the client is the aim at Alexander Miller.

There are great frames out there that all too often are not seen, as Mark tells us. “We’ve got the ergonomics of ic!berlin from, yes, Berlin! We’ve got the colours of the WOOW range from Paris! Then there’s

prodesign’s slick Danish design, which have been part of the practice for ten years.” Why not pop in and see for yourself?

Ann’s Pasties returns to its roots as new shop opens in Porthleven

There’s not many an occasion that isn’t made better with a hot pasty in hand and we’re delighted that Ann’s Pasties is opening a new shop right here in Porthleven, the home of Cornwall Living.

Ann’s Pasties is very much a family business and it was Ann and mother Hettie that started it all off, opening their first pasty shop in Porthleven back in 1985. As the business flourished, Ann’s son Fergus stepped in to help and he now gets the crimping seal of approval from Granny Hettie. Ann’s Pasties are all lovingly handmade, from locally sourced meat and vegetables and crimped to perfection. Organic flour and a generations’ old recipe makes for thin, crisp pastry on the outside and a succulent layered filling on the inside. Be sure to pick one up next time you’re in Porthleven or if you want to take home a taste of Cornwall, you can have Ann’s Pasties delivered across the UK.
