Smarter energy choices
Practical thinking is reshaping home energy decisions across Cornwall and the South West.
Householders are asking different questions about energy, and GreenGenUK is hearing them every day. Interest still begins with heat pumps and solar panels, yet conversations now reach much further. People want to understand how every part of a home energy system works together, what it will cost to run over many years and where genuine savings can be made. That change in outlook is shaping the advice the company provides across Cornwall and the South West.
The recent increase in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant to £9,000 for eligible homes replacing oil or LPG heating has prompted a rise in enquiries from customers who had previously dismissed heat pumps as unaffordable. The grant is available until March 2027, with systems needing to be installed and commissioned before the deadline, making early planning worthwhile for anyone considering the move. GreenGenUK says many homeowners are now comparing long-term heating costs against the uncertainty of oil prices, with greater attention given to projected spending over the next decade or more.
Battery storage has also become a growing part of the discussion. Many customers are choosing batteries before installing solar panels, using cheaper overnight electricity tariffs to reduce household costs while preparing for future expansion. Existing solar owners are looking at ways to store more of the electricity they generate, often alongside electric vehicle charging or upgraded heating systems.
GreenGenUK has installed renewable heating and power systems across the region since 2011, designing combinations of heat pumps, solar photovoltaic panels, battery storage and electric vehicle charging to suit individual properties. The company says customers increasingly view these technologies as parts of a single plan, with every decision contributing to lower running costs and improved efficiency. It reflects a measured approach to home energy, where informed choices today can continue paying dividends for many years.
