Cornwall LivingIssue #126

Softly spun

As we say farewell to summer, cosy knits in bright colours are the perfect way to ward off the winter blues.

After featuring Maxari in a previous edition of Cornwall Living, we were drawn to their vibrant stock and the carefully-chosen designs and so were keen to catch up with them again to discover more about their AW2022 collection. Run by husband-and-wife team Mike and Vicky, who opened their first store in Salcombe and now have five shops across Devon and Cornwall, Maxari’s collection is sourced from the finest French fashion houses alongside their own in-house brand.

We spoke with Vicky to find out more.

We have noticed many fashion boutiques move to a more muted palette for autumn/winter, but not so at Maxari: “I feel that colour is so important for these seasons,” says Vicky, “as it brightens up those dull days and women often feel happier when wearing colour.
We love the sumptuous and warm feel of a cosy knit.

So, what can we expect when it comes to styling this winter? “We really feel that oversized is back,” says Vicky, “alongside a batwing sleeve which can be very flattering. We also love plain jumpers with a slight twist, such as a colourful button, detailing on the sleeve or a subtle rainbow somewhere. When you’ve fallen in love with a knitwear piece it’s important that you know how to care for it. Hand washing is key and your knit will also benefit from a specialist washing liquid that will help to protect both the colour and the fibre. It’s also a good idea to invest in a cashmere comb to remove any unsightly bobbles. I love wearing one of our knits with my favourite pair of jeans, boots and a bright beanie hat – the perfect outfit for a Cornish beach walk, whatever the weather!”
