The home’s beating heart
Stay ahead of the game this year with Kitchen Kit’s insight into luxury kitchen trends, sure to make the heart of your home stand out in 2022.
The first tip from the Kitchen Kit team, is to let there be light! Kitchens of old were known for their stark, almost industrial lighting. While it’s good to be able to see what you’re cooking, as the modern kitchen has morphed into a sociable space rather than just a food prep area, so the trend in lighting has become more subtle. If you think about it, a kitchen is likely to be the most expensive room in the house and such deserves lighting that ticks both the function and aesthetic boxes. Of course, task lighting is essential but this can be mixed with statement pendants, wall lights or recessed strips. Dimmable and colour changing lights will also be fashionable for 2022.
Light is important, so is colour, and this year it’s time to be brave! Gone are the days when kitchens were either white or wood. Today’s incredible ranges of colour and finish that are available offer a kaleidoscope of choice. Deep colours are very on-trend at the moment – think hues of deep blues or greens. It may seem like a daring choice but going bold with colour will really make a statement. We are also loving a two effect, whether that be a mix of colours or white with wood for a mid-century modern look.
The next tip is that it’s all about integration. When it comes to appliances, while they are the necessary beating heart of the kitchen, we don’t always want to have them on display. By selecting integrated appliances, you won’t detract from the design of your kitchen, as all the work horses will be hidden behind doors. This year will also see the rise in popularity of smart appliances which connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Choose from clever coffee machines, ovens with HD cameras or even fridges with apps to help you manage your groceries.
Finally, if you really want to ‘raise the bar’, then go for it! Breakfast bars have the effect of achieving both extra space for sociable cooking, and also an extension to a dining area. They provide a focal point for family to gather, making meal times and coffee catch ups more sociable than before.
