The times they are a-changin’

If you’re visiting The Acorn in 2026, you will notice some incredible upgrades to the building as it has been the grateful recipient of funding from the UK Government, which has allowed for huge improvements, giving the place a new sparkle.

You might breathe a sigh of relief as you glide down the new staircase, which is wider and much more accessible than the old one, originally designed for Victorian school children!

The box office has changed to accommodate the new staircase, although the original, custom-made stained-glass remains, with improvements that the team love and hope you do too. New solar panels up on the roof make The Acorn a greener venue and also mean that there can be reinvestment of the money, previously spent on electricity, right back into the arts. There’s also new lighting outside, making it safer and more welcoming after dark.

All of this has been possible thanks to the Town Regeneration and Investment Programme (TRIP) and is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council is responsible for managing projects funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme. The Acorn would like to express their huge gratitude for receiving this grant.
