Treasuring heritage

At Specialist Glass Co, the team are passionate about stained glass, taking care over design and restoration, whether it’s traditional or contemporary.

At this time of year, draughty old windows and doors will really let you know that they need updating to make them more energy efficient, not only to save money on our ever-increasing energy bills, but more importantly, to decrease our carbon footprints. However, the risk of losing or damaging original features to your home like stained glass, understandably, might just stop you in your tracks.

The perfect one-stop shop for such an occasion as this, Specialist Glass Co have the solution. With the ability to replace your windows and doors while restoring and transforming your original stained-glass features into double-glazed units, you can achieve all the benefits of warmth, security and sound proofing without compromising on the charming heritage of your home.

For instance, Lynn and Andy’s bungalow in Helston was built between 1914 and 1918, designed in the arts and crafts style of the time with many bespoke quirky features still taking pride of place in their home – the main beams were originally telegraph pole masts from the famous Marconi communications site near the Lizard. While the original stained-glass windows were more or less intact, with a few cracks and some perished lead work that needed replacing and cleaning up, the windows and doors were nevertheless draughty and cold. With a wealth of knowledge and experience under their belt, the team made light work of replacing all the windows, not to mention two sets of French doors and a back door as well as 28 stained-glass panels that were restored, resized, cleaned, polished and encapsulated, making for a warm and splendid-looking home.

With bespoke, custom-made designs being another specialty for Specialist Glass Co, there was no problem when Perry called from Padstow, who had an original Victorian door with old standard glass. After consulting with Perry, who wanted Leicester City Football Club emblems on each panel, it was decided (with a little help from his wife) that a Victorian design with the house name would look beautiful, while the team made Perry a sun catcher to hang in his window.

So, whether careful restoration of a much beloved heritage design is needed, or your home is in need of something entirely new, Specialist Glass Co is home to all the knowledge and experience you could need to get your home ready for the colder months, without having to compromise.
