Cornwall Living

Wild luxury

Looking to immerse yourself in nature, but with all the lashings of a luxury stay? If so, look no further than Travellers Rest.

Providing guests with a great deal of flexibility and relaxation, whilst being immersed in the beautiful natural environment of Cornwall, it’s no wonder the popularity of glamping holidays is on the rise. At Travellers Rest, glamping pods are all double glazed with underfloor heating, a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower. Unlike with traditional camping, the pods are ready for you to move in and enjoy from the moment you arrive. It’s like having a hotel bedroom immersed in nature. Oh, and they’re also dog friendly!

As a dog-friendly stay just moments from the South West Coast Path, this is the perfect base from which to explore the north coast with your furry friend in tow. But it’s also more than that. It’s a ‘stake in the ground’ by its owners, who are dedicated to becoming as sustainable as possible in the way they do business. “We have a number of plans in place to evolve our sustainable practises and to futureproof our business by 2025,” explains Travellers Rest owner, Martin Watts. “We are exploring the use of wind and solar to supply the pub with the energy we need to run the equipment; we’ll be removing any equipment that requires fossil fuels, and we’ve also addressed our supply chain to ensure our suppliers meet our
high standards.”

Martin and team are also keen to ‘give back’ to the land and community, which is why they decided to introduce a Wildlife Pond, which is really starting to mature. “We often see dragonflies circling and laying larvae, as well as a whole host of insects and local inhabitants of the land using the pond as a watering hole.” These include starlings, who are back nesting, says Martin. “Soon we will see their young being taught how to scoop up water in their beaks, which is really enjoyable to see!”

Whether you spend your day exploring the coastline, or soaking up the stunning surroundings of the Travellers Rest grounds, what better way to round it off than with a meal at the Travellers Rest Inn? Serving fresh, local ingredients wherever possible and providing their own unique versions of great pub classics, as well as making the most of freshly caught fish and providing a great range of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options, the menus change with the season, but the ethos remains the same: to offer guests a true taste of Cornwall.
