Wild swim at home

Taking a dip in a natural freshwater pool gives you an immediate sense of swimming in a place that belongs alongside the beauty of the Cornish countryside.

Traditional swimming pools with their mosaic tiles, straight lines and glossy finishes feel out of place amidst undulating hills and trees, but natural swimming ponds bring curved shapes, natural materials and softer edges to a swimming area that blends into the natural environment.

“These beautiful pools don’t need the same planning consents as a traditional pool or cost nearly as much to maintain…”

Originally started in Austria and Germany in the late 1980’s, natural swimming pools combine elements of a wildlife pond and a swimming pool. As well as the obvious aesthetic benefits this also means you’ll swim in clean, clear water, as nature intended. These environmentally friendly eco-pools use the latest technology to keep the water clean and safe without the use of chemicals like bromine.

Each pool is divided into two sections; a shallow area with attractive and purifying aquatic plants and a larger swimming space. The shallower area includes surface skimmers to help keep the water circulating and the surface free from floating debris. A swimming pond is divided in two by a barrier, keeping the swimming area separate from the plants, but ensuring that water can still circulate freely. A filtration system helps the self-cleaning process and these are far more cost-effective to maintain than a traditional pool.

You may wonder how warm these pools are? Well, the shallow planted areas act a bit like a solar panel and water is pumped from here in to the swimming area. This helps keep the pool at a constant temperature and in the warmer months this will peak at around 24-30ºC.

Cornwall Ponds are experts in designing, building and maintaining your natural pool to fit in with your environment. These beautiful pools don’t need the same planning consents as a traditional pool or cost nearly as much to maintain and the way they blend into their surroundings makes them an attractive alternative to conventional pools. The experience of taking a dip in one is a sensation that gets your blood flowing and gives you an incredible sense of wellbeing.
