Gourmet gossip

We catch up with all the latest news from some of our favourite chefs, eateries, hotels and pubs!

Enjoy a very Cornish Christmas tipple from Polgoon!

Our milder climate makes Cornwall one of the best places in the UK for growing grapes. A perfect example of this is Polgoon Orchard and Vineyard, set in a beautiful position in a sheltered bowl on the outskirts of Penzance, protected from the prevailing winds. Polgoon is a producer of award-winning artisan wines, ciders and juices, with family at its heart. Indeed take a tour around the vineyard and you’re bound to bump into at least one family member somewhere!

This Christmas, for lovers of art, wine and Cornwall, Polgoon are offering a very special, limited edition bottle of Bacchus, featuring a painting of ‘Veor Cove’ by Paul Lewin from the Newlyn School of Art, which would make an ideal Christmas gift. It’s available online and at the Polgoon Vineyard shop in Penzance for just £19.95!

Harbour Lights is more than your average seaside chippy

Having won national awards, enjoyed a recent royal visit and always placed an emphasis on fine fish and chips in Falmouth, Harbour Lights continues to go from strength to strength.

The team currently boasts the accolade of UK’s top ‘Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant’, feeding a whopping 180,000 customers a year. Sourcing all of their fish responsibly, owners Pete and Sue hold the work of the Fishermen’s Mission close to their hearts, and have raised an impressive £12,000 for the charity, which supports all workers – employed and retired – in what remains the most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK.

There are plenty of reasons to support this cheerful Falmouth chippy, so why not pop along next time you’re in town and see what the fuss is about?
