An unforgettable adventure
Following the breathtaking success of 2017’s Mount to Mont cycle challenge, Cornwall Hospice Care announces a new two-wheeled adventure for 2019.
Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care is offering an exclusive opportunity to join a team of 50 cyclists as they ride from the river Camel to the Nantes in northwest France. There are only a few spaces left for the October event that will start from the magnificent Prideaux Place in Padstow, and end at the Chateau des duc de Bretagne.
“remarkable and truly unique experience”
The Chateau is the jewel at the heart of Nantes. Enclosed by fortress walls and surrounded by its own moat, it’s imposing yet welcoming. It’s where Cornwall Hospice Care’s cyclists will celebrate the end of what promises to be an amazing adventure, when they ride into the walled courtyard four days after leaving Cornwall.
The planned 280-mile route explores the beauty of Cornwall on day one, before an overnight ferry crossing to France where the challenge features much of the famous La Velodyssée – the Atlantic cycling route – as the team head south. Cornwall Hospice Care’s Head of Fundraising, Oli Hoare, tells us: “This bespoke adventure follows on from our hugely successful Mount to Mont cycle in 2017, and will provide our cyclists with fantastic views over Padstow before we head down and through the town and out across the Camel Trail, eventually reaching France and the finish line.
“In 2017,” Oli continues, “our team, of all ages and abilities, even some who hadn’t ridden a bike in years, raised a breathtaking £111,500 to help fund the care we provide to terminally-ill patients and their families. But we also experienced a joint adventure that none of us will ever forget. It’s why I’m riding again and why I hope others will join me for this remarkable and truly unique experience.”
To find out more and to sign up, be sure to visit the charity’s website or give Oli a call. He finishes: “We ask each cyclist to raise £1,960, to help fund our care. You can also watch a wonderful film on our website, which was made during the 2017 Mount to Mont Challenge and which features many of those who rode for us – you’re sure to be inspired by their stories!”
