The innovators at Oltco continue to pave the way as pioneers in resin-bound solutions, at the same time turning the tide in the fight against plastic pollution.

At the beginning of 2019, two entrepreneurs from Cornwall came up with a unique solution to help tackle the issue of plastic waste littering the globe. Now, over 12 months since the launch of Oltco’s Recycle Bound, the product has recycled the equivalent of 30 million plastic straws! Not only is it being used on driveways up and down the country, it’s also being adopted at some of the UK’s leading hotels and attractions!

Oltco Directors, Tom Stringer and Johnny Pearce, were inspired to develop the product, having grown increasingly concerned over the devastating environmental impact of plastic waste on the planet. The development of Recycle Bound took two years and since its launch, it already boasts an impressive string of accolades, including ‘Product of the Year’ at the Cornwall Business Awards, and runner up for ‘Recycled Product of the Year’ at the National Recycling Awards.

Having been used to create 150 square metres of pathways at Carbis Bay Hotel near St Ives – using the equivalent of 450,000 plastic straws – as well as at Trevornick Holiday Park near Newquay, where the equivalent of more than three million plastic straws were used to upgrade and replace the park’s paths and pool surround, Recycle Bound is clearly meeting a growing demand for more environmentally conscious solutions to these kinds of projects. As Tom puts it: “We have been thrilled by the response to Recycle Bound. Every member of our team has fully embraced it and it has proved hugely popular with our customers, both residential and commercial.” Indeed, the number of customers requesting it to be used for driveways, paths and patios is growing all the time, and Johnny tells us: “We are grateful for all the individuals and companies who have come on board in a bid to help us tackle the global issue of plastic waste.

“At Oltco, we never rest on our laurels,” Johnny continues. “It’s in our DNA to innovate and we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. We are now working on another world-first product that will also utilise waste plastic.” He assures us: “It will be a game changer when it is launched later this year, so watch this space!”
