Cornwall LivingIssue #115

Shining bright

This Christmas season join a magical lantern procession on an intimate journey through Trebah to firelit festivities on the beach.

What could be more in the Christmas spirit than coming together in joy and creativity to light up the darkness of the winter months? This season you are invited to experience the enchanting Trebah Garden at night, to navigate the sub-tropical pathways by the warm glow of your own handcrafted lantern and watch mesmerising flames and reflections on the shoreline.

Explore the garden on your return journey through tunnels of twinkling lights to find local artist-created lantern installations, including lantern specialists Tony Crosby of Truro City of Lights, and Laura Francis Martin of Illuminate Festival. Make sure to look out for lanterns from the community and education programme, designed and created by schools across Cornwall!

You are cordially invited to make your very own lanterns to guide your family down to the fire light on the beach, just make sure to pre-book your experience. Trebah’s artists will be on hand to support you through the process of designing and building your lantern and to help you achieve your creative potential.

While this is a family event for all ages, unfortunately it is not suitable for buggies or dogs, but do make sure to get in touch if you have any access needs. Further details of available time slots and booking information can be found on the website, tickets priced at £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children, with Trebah Members receiving a 10% discount, and the option to make your very own lantern for an additional £4 with all the materials you’ll need included.

Trebah Garden of Light is a pilot event exploring the possibility of a winter festival of light for Cornwall. Cornish Gardens of Light would be created in partnership with some of Cornwall’s most breath-taking locations, from the Isles of Scilly to the Tamar Valley, with the ultimate ambition being to build a festival to shine some hope in the dark winter months, celebrating the uniqueness of Cornwall’s landscape and developing an opportunity to bring one and all together to share in contemporary Cornish culture.
