Sip and savour

Meet the makers on a new Cornish mini-break at Talland Bay Hotel.

This season, Talland Bay Hotel is shining a spotlight on local suppliers with a new ‘Meet the Makers’ break, offering guests the chance to discover the people and stories behind the luxury Cornish coastal retreat. The package has been curated to celebrate some of the best Cornish tipples and to meet the people behind the hotel’s excellently stocked bar. Guests are invited to step inside the doors of two independent drinks suppliers who are carving their own path.

This includes a guided tour of Colwith Farm Distillery at Lostwithiel, Cornwall’s first plough-to-bottle distillery, makers of award-winning spirits and the team behind the hotel’s own blend, Talland Bay No.1 gin. Unlike many craft distilleries, Colwith Farm Distillery forgoes mass-produced base spirit in favour of creating its own from scratch, from potatoes grown on the fifth-generation family farm. The tour includes walking step-by-step through the process of preparing, mashing and distilling the potato wine as well as a tutored tasting of the distillery’s flagship vodkas and gins.

The break also features a tour of Knightor Winery, set above St Austell Bay. The winery was founded in 2011 and today Head Winemaker, David Brocklehurst and the team produce the best still and sparkling Cornish wines, along with a selection of vermouths and spritzers, using a relatively hands-off approach at their two coastal vineyards in Portscatho and Seaton. Visitors enjoy a guided tour through the display vines followed by a peek into the winery for a brief introduction to how wine is made, and finally a tasting of four wines.

A gourmet stay in Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without a feast, and the package includes a nine-course dining experience with accompanying wines in the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, showcasing the best local seasonal fare. The three-night ‘Meet the Makers’ break costs from £605 per person including accommodation and daily breakfast, a nine-course dining experience with matching wines on one night, and guided tours of Colwith Farm Distillery and Knightor Winery (based on two people sharing a room). This special break is available from June through to August, offering the ultimate in indulgence and relaxation.
